Sometimes it's easy to ignore the lower-profile members of an exceptionally gifted family. Such has been the fate of Cabernet Franc, sibling to the other members of the great Bordeaux family which includes Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Within the Indian Rock family, we have been singing the praises of Cabernet Franc ever since our first vintage in 2004, when it produced the darkest and most complex wine of the season. For years it has served as an important blending component for the Rock,
adding mouth feel and high-note aromatics, but in 2006 we decided to bottle a small amount of it separately as a special treat for our wine club members. Redolent of violets, plum, cassis and black olives, this wine shows exquisite varietal complexity. Supple and rich on the palate, it has the fine tannin structure and ample extract to reward 3-5 years of cellaring, but why wait? Enjoy this wine now with a juicy grilled rib-eye or well aged Stilton.
